Der Abgabesatz zur Künstlersozialversicherung wird auch im Jahr 2020 bei 4,2 % liegen. Damit bleibt der Abgabesatz im dritten Jahr in Folge unverändert.
Der unveränderte Abgabesatz ist im Wesentlichen auf das Gesetz zur Stabilisierung des Künstlersozialabgabesatzes zu Beginn des Jahres 2015 zurückzuführen. Denn wegen der dadurch intensivierten Prüf- und Beratungstätigkeit von Rentenversicherung und Künstlersozialkasse hat sich die Zahl der abgabepflichtigen Unternehmen erhöht.

Über die Künstlersozialversicherung werden über 185.000 selbstständige Künstler und Publizisten als Pflichtversicherte in den Schutz der gesetzlichen Kranken-, Pflege- und Rentenversicherung einbezogen. Die Künstler und Publizisten tragen – wie abhängig beschäftigte Arbeitnehmer – die Hälfte ihrer Sozialversicherungsbeiträge. Die andere Beitragshälfte wird finanziert durch einen Bundeszuschuss (20 %) und durch die Künstlersozialabgabe der Unternehmen (30 %), die künstlerische und publizistische Leistungen verwerten.
